ANSA has transferred the complete accessioned mission record of ALEP 12 to the National Flight Archive, 52 years after the Aristarchus Plateau expedition concluded the First Lunar Era. The public collection includes restored photography, mission-control voice loops, crew technical notes and the final sample catalog.
Archivists digitized more than 1,900 hours of multichannel audio and 46,000 pages of engineering and scientific records. Original film was rescanned from preservation masters, with all restoration decisions recorded in image metadata. Source artifacts remain available to qualified researchers by appointment.
The release includes previously restricted trajectory-reconstruction and anomaly-response records whose technical sensitivity has expired. Personal medical information and third-party proprietary material remain closed under the National Archives Act and applicable privacy law.
ALEP 12 landed near the Aristarchus Plateau on 20 April 1974. Its two surface crew members conducted three traverses, returned 118.6 kilograms of documented lunar material and deployed a geophysical station that operated for six years.
